Sterling is an ammunition brand produced by Turaç, a Turkish manufacturer founded in 1987 and headquartered in the Çankırı region of Turkey, where it runs a modern cartridge factory. Turaç is a large international exporter that ships a majority of its output to dozens of countries, and Sterling is the label most US shooters encounter on store shelves and online. It reaches the American market mainly as affordable, high-volume range ammunition.

What they're known for

Sterling covers popular handgun, rifle, and shotgun chamberings. In the US, the most commonly stocked loads are 9mm Luger, 5.56 NATO, 7.62x39, and .308 Winchester, along with shotshells. Pistol and rifle calibers are offered in both steel-case and brass-case versions, in bullet styles including full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ), jacketed hollow point (JHP), and subsonic. The "Sterling Steel" steel-cased line is the budget-priced workhorse of the lineup, while brass-cased loads sit a step up. US availability tends to come and go in waves, since Sterling's primary markets are outside the United States. Reviews are generally favorable for the price, with shooters noting that, like most value imports, it can run dirtier than premium domestic ammo.

On US-GUNDEALS

Sterling is a value-tier import — among the lower-cost options for practice and training across the shops we compare on US-GUNDEALS. It's a reasonable pick for high-round-count range days rather than for defensive carry or precision competition.
