Tula — sold in the United States as TulAmmo — is steel-cased ammunition from the Tula Cartridge Plant in Tula, Russia, one of the oldest cartridge works in the world. For more than a decade it was a staple of the American budget market: cheap, dependable, and available by the case in the calibers high-volume shooters burn through fastest. Alongside Wolf, Barnaul and Brown/Silver Bear, Tula was one of the brands that made steel-cased Russian ammo a default choice for range days.

What they're known for

Tula is value plinking ammunition built around a steel case with a polymer or lacquer coating and a Berdan primer — inexpensive to produce, reliable in semi-autos, but not practical to reload. The lineup centers on the workhorse calibers: 7.62x39 for AK-pattern rifles, .223 Remington/5.56 and .308 Winchester for AR and bolt platforms, and pistol calibers including 9mm Luger, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Bullets are typically full metal jacket or bi-metal-jacketed steel, aimed at training and high-round-count shooting rather than precision or self-defense.

Because Tula is Russian-made, it falls under the U.S. ban on importing Russian-origin firearms and ammunition. Direct imports have been suspended, and Tula has largely disappeared from normal retail supply. What remains on shelves is pre-ban inventory, which grows scarcer and pricier over time.

On US-GUNDEALS

Tula is a budget-tier brand, but availability is the catch: with imports halted, it is increasingly a stash item rather than an everyday plinking commodity. Where lots are still listed, compare prices and case counts across the shops on US-GUNDEALS, and expect supply to be inconsistent.
