Overview

The 7.62x39mm is a versatile cartridge for training, sport shooting, and hunting of roe deer, available in full metal jacket (FMJ, 8 g / 124 gr) and soft point loadings (SP, SST). It is characterized by muzzle velocities of about 719 to 743 m/s, energy values of roughly 2,062 to 2,245 Joules, favorable zero distances between 145 and 153 m, and loadings tuned specifically for semiautomatics with brass cases and Boxer priming. FMJ variants are well suited to affordable training and reduced bore fouling, while soft point bullets are designed for hunting applications.

Ammunition Types

The available loadings include both full metal jacket and soft point bullets.

The full metal jacket (FMJ) cartridges with 8 g / 124 gr are excellent for affordable training and competitive shooting. The gilding-metal (tombac) jacket prevents leading of the bore and significantly reduces bore fouling. Loadings tuned specifically for semiautomatics ensure reliable feeding and function. FMJ cartridges are loaded with high-quality brass cases and soft Boxer priming.

For hunting applications, soft point (SP) bullets and modern SST bullets are available. These proven designs have been continuously refined and meet current requirements.

Ballistics & Performance

The cartridges reach a muzzle velocity of around 740 m/s (about 2,428 fps) with a muzzle energy of roughly 2,180 to 2,245 Joules. With muzzle velocities between 719 and 743 m/s and energy values of 2,062 to 2,208 Joules, the hunting loadings are well suited to roe deer.

The favorable zero distance ranges, depending on the loading, between 145 and 153 m. Practical packaging units of 20 or 50 rounds allow flexible training at the range and on shooting simulators.
